The first question any new pool owner looking for their first cover needs to decide is, “Do I want a Mesh Safety Cover or a Solid Safety Cover?” Each has its own benefits and drawbacks, and ultimately it’s up to you to decide which is more enticing. In some circumstances, QPC may only recommend one type vs. the other depending on the pool shape or its surroundings. When you have both options, it can be best broken down to:

So, Mesh vs. Solid? It really comes down to a mesh-covered pool, which will generally open up a bit dirtier than a solid-covered pool, meaning potentially more chemicals and more time may be needed in the spring before it’s swimmable. However, they require less winter maintenance due to the cover pump being underneath the cover, rather than on top. A solid-covered pool will generally open up as nice as it was closed. However, the cover pump on top of the cover needs to be maintained and cleared of debris to ensure it’s always working.
